Course Overview

​

The Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue course will provide students with the fundamental skills to protect, respond and rescue individuals in emergency situations in the open cut mining resources. You will learn the skills necessary to apply solutions to a range of incidents, including fire, vertical and confined space rescue and hazardous material incidents.

Course Structure

To receive this qualification you must successfully complete this course, you must satisfactorily complete all course assessment requirements.

 

14 units, 5 core and 9 electives.

Duration

​

The public course runs for 15 days at our college facility. For our students and clients the expected completion time is 12 months.

​

This time period is inclusive of all teaching, learning and assessment activities required to achieve course outcomes.  It should be noted that there is considerable flexibility in the time allocated for course completion, such flexibility acknowledges that individual students may require less or more time to achieve course outcomes.

Pre-requisites

 

There are no formal pre-requisites required for entry into this qualification, However a number of units has pre-requisites which require completion prior to commencing the unit, including -

• PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue, requires completion of HLTAID011 Provide first aid

​

Further details of unit pre-requisite requirements will be provide at enrolment and on course commencement. 

 

RTO Entry Requirements

 

Students must satisfactorily complete a language, numeracy and literacy assessment prior to or on course commencement to assess capacity to meet the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the course.

Students will also need to have the physical capacity to undertake the practical components of this course.

​

Delivery

Delivery modes include classroom lead training sessions and written assessments.

​

Training

 

The course is facilitated by a highly experienced training team, and includes trainer presentations, small group work, and lots of opportunity for practical hands on activities.

​

Assessment

 

A range of assessment methods are used to monitor student progress and assess competence. Knowledge checks and practical skill demonstrations are used across all units, some units also require written activities to be completed.  Throughout the course trainers are available to assist and support students in their learning journey and in the completion of assessment requirements.

Employment Outcomes

​

Students who are successful in gaining this qualification can expect to be eligible for jobs in the emergency response sector within the open cut mining and resources industry.

Course resources required

 

Prior to course commencement students will be informed of any specialist clothing, footwear, equipment or materials required for the course.

Qualification fee - $6,500​

 

Please note certification will not be issued until all course fees have been paid.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

 

All students need to have a USI to be able to enrol onto this course.  The USI is available online at no cost and will stay with you for life. You can apply for your USI prior to the course at www.usi.gov.au or Australasia Fire & Emergency Response College can apply on your behalf.  More information about applying for a USI will be provided at enrolment.
